Players are accusing Tencent’s latest game of copying Sony’s Horizon series

Players are accusing Tencent‘s latest game of looking very similar to Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

Light of Motiram is developed by Polaris Quest, a subsidiary of Tencent.

The game is described as an open world adventure set in a land “where human civilisation has ceased to exist”.

The world is inhabited by mechanical animals known as mechanimals, including a large gorilla, deer and bull.

“Facing primal civilisations, unpredictable weather and lurking Mechanimals, you must make the most of every resource to maintain your survival,” the game’s description reads.

While the gameplay appears to have some elements not found in the Horizon series, such as co-op multiplayer and the ability to craft shelters, the game has nevertheless been criticised on social media with many accusing it of taking more than a little inspiration from Guerrilla‘s games.

Players can also tame and train the Mechanimals, leading some to suggest the game may also borrow heavily from Palworld, which itself was criticised for taking apparent inspiration from Pokémon.

“That is shameless,” Reddit user Xeriam wrote. “Like, if they at least changed the colors, made the plating chrome instead of white, made the good lights green, bad lights purple, maybe they could slip it by without people’s eyebrows raising into the stratosphere, but c’mon.”

“Hey, you guys remember when people were telling Nintendo to sue Palworld for ripping off their game (and Nintendo did but for other reasons)?” Reddit user Theonearmedbard added. “Yeah, Guerilla should absolutely be looking into some legal action, because holy shit that’s blatant.”

Light of Motiram’s release date has yet to be confirmed but the game can be wishlisted on Steam.
