Playing Elden Ring on a Guitar Hero Controller Will Never Beat the Creativity of Playing Valorant With a Steering Wheel

When it comes to gaming challenges, players have always pushed the boundaries of what’s possible. From beating Dark Souls with bananas (real story) to completing Minecraft blindfolded, the gaming community’s creativity knows no bounds. Recently, two particularly impressive feats have caught our attention: playing Elden Ring with a Guitar Hero controller and tackling Valorant with a steering wheel.

While both achievements showcase incredible ingenuity and dedication, there’s something uniquely audacious about attempting to play a competitive first-person shooter using automotive equipment. After all, missing a dodge roll in Elden Ring is one thing, but trying to win a gunfight while literally steering your way through Icebox?

That’s a different level of madness entirely.

When gaming meets unconventional controls

Content creator Mage Eye‘s journey through The Lands Between with a Guitar Hero controller is undoubtedly impressive. The sheer dedication required to map controls and execute precise movements during intense boss battles deserves recognition. After all, this fellow Tarnished managed to defeat Godfrey on just their 24th attempt—a feat some regular controller users are still struggling to achieve!

The setup process alone is a testament to the player’s ingenuity, with the five fret buttons and strum bar being carefully mapped to different actions. While it may seem like a nightmare to navigate Limgrave with what’s essentially a plastic instrument, the single-player nature of the game means you’re only letting yourself down if things go wrong.

But here’s the thing about Elden Ring—it’s designed to be beaten through patience and persistence. Every boss has patterns to learn, every area can be methodically cleared, and most importantly, you can take all the time in the world to figure out which colored button does what. It’s like learning to play “Through the Fire and Flames” on Expert difficulty, except instead of hitting notes, you’re hitting Malenia with a Zweihander.

The challenge is impressive, no doubt, but it exists within a controlled environment where the only variable is your own skill and determination. And let’s be honest, at least all five fret buttons are actually usable – which is more than we can say for our next challenger.

The audacity of competitive steering

Enter Iridium, the absolute mad lad who decided that the mouse and keyboard were too mainstream for Valorant. Armed with nothing but a steering wheel and what we can only assume is an unshakeable sense of humor, they embarked on perhaps the most questionable gaming challenge since someone tried to play Dark Souls with a dance pad.

The configuration nightmare alone is enough to make most people question their life choices. Two hours of configuration just to discover that Valorant’s raw input system wouldn’t even allow turning the wheel. Imagine showing up to a gunfight and realizing you can only shoot in the direction you’re already facing—it’s like playing the game while cosplaying as one of Killjoy’s turrets.

Yet somehow, against all odds and probably against the advice of every reasonable person in their life, Iridium managed to secure a kill in their very first match. One kill might not sound impressive until you realize they’re essentially playing a tactical shooter with the same equipment you’d use to parallel park a Honda Civic.

The real kicker? While Elden Ring players can take their time learning boss patterns, Valorant demands split-second decisions and precise aim. Try explaining to your teammates that you whiffed that crucial Chamber shot because you were still trying to figure out which pedal was bound to your ultimate ability.

And hey, next time Riot‘s matchmaking teams you up with someone who plays like they’re driving a car through B Site, maybe cut them some slack. They might just be attempting the gaming equivalent of entering a Formula 1 race with a unicycle.
