PlayStation 5’s 30th Anniversary Collection Is Amazing, But One Of Sony’s Limited Edition PS4 Released In 2018 Was the True Hype Machine

The PlayStation 5 has been released for the past four years, and the gaming community has taken full advantage of this beast of a gaming machine. The gaming industry has evolved for the past three decades, and Sony Interactive Entertainment wanted to commemorate how far the PlayStation brand has come since 1994. Hideaki Nishino recently revealed a new Collection bundle with the original PlayStation color schemes.

The color scheme heavily resembles the original PlayStation that came out 30 years ago and was a perfect nostalgic touch. Legacy fans may be interested in investing in this limited edition console; however, one other PlayStation was truly ahead of its time from another console generation.

The gaming community anticipated a unique special edition for the PlayStation 5 amidst the 30th anniversary. It wasn’t long ago when the highly anticipated Pro model of the PS5 was inadvertently leaked by none other than Sony themselves through an artwork celebrating the 30th anniversary. Perhaps some Sony executives were too excited and jumped the gun a bit early and put the speculations and debates to rest after Mark Cerny officially revealed what is said to be the most powerful PlayStation ever built in a brief 9-minute talk.

It was only a matter of time before Sony revealed something special and they have listened to the feedback of the community and thought it would be a great idea to give them a new limited edition PlayStation while taking them a trip down memory lane. Hideaki Nishino proudly presented the 30th Anniversary Collection for the PlayStation 5 and Pro models and the bundle comes with a limited edition DualSense that can be bought separately.

The PlayStation Portal is another great accessory graced with the 30th Anniversary theme. Nishino revealed that the Portal will also be sold separately like the standard DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers which is interesting to see a dedicated Remote Player receive this level of treatment. Perhaps Sony noticed the recent surge in sales after it defied all odds and reached the top spot of being the fastest-selling accessory in the United Kingdom.

While the 30th Anniversary Collection looks great, Sony released the PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition a few years ago, and some would argue it was superior to what the gaming company has presented today. The limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro had twice the storage of a standard Pro console, and the body was purely covered with a dark blue translucent shell paired with a DualShock 4 with the same design, camera, mono headset, and a vertical stand.

Consumers will go out of their way to grab the rarest PlayStation console whether they will use it for personal gaming sessions or prop them up for display. The upcoming PlayStation 5 bundle is a great console to acquire in the collection, especially for longtime PlayStation supporters.

Although the upcoming 30th Anniversary Collection comes at a hefty price tag and the design is oozing with pure nostalgia, some players would prefer to keep their present PlayStation 5 models and wait for the next generation. Recent reports suggest Jim Ryan has struck another deal with AMD to source the processing chip for the PlayStation 6 which will be a significant upgrade.

Some owners are now selling their Limited Edition PlayStation 4 Pro bundles for a steep price for collectors. Nevertheless, Sony Interactive Entertainment knows how to appeal to the gaming community and tickle entice collectors to invest in rare consoles.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to drop the ball regarding anniversary editions and the upcoming PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro bundles are worth the wait. Perhaps future anniversary collections will bring back the dark blue translucent shell.
