Pokemon Legends: Z-A revealed at Pokemon Presents

The Pokemon Presents showcase was featured live, and it had a couple of notable presentations to show for. One such presentation at the end was something most might not have expected— a “sequel” of the Pokemon Legends series.

Represented in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is Kalos, a region that hasn’t been brought up for quite some time since the Pokemon X and Y series of games. The video displays a cinematic that goes over an overall plan of Lumiose City — which the game is set entirely within — with sketches representing the architecture including Pokemon and people around it.

One of the more interesting things about the trailer, however, is that it appears to be within a futuristic setting. Something like this would be an entirely new perspective for Pokemon games, given that the mainline series is typically set in modern times. The prior Legends game was set in Hisui, an older version of Sinnoh from the ancient past. Going towards a futuristic setting within the sequel will be a polar contrast to this, if that is truly what the developers are going for.

Despite showing no gameplay, the trailer displayed enough to give a general, albeit partially vague gist as to what the new game would entail. As for the mainline series of games, there have been no announcements about them so far, implying that developers might still be hard at work on a new project behind the scenes that may need more time before surfacing to the public.

The game is set to launch at some point in 2025, of which the exact release date is currently unknown. The platform will be on Nintendo Switch systems.
