Pokémon TCG Pocket launches its hotly-anticipated trading feature and Space-Time Smackdown

  • Pokémon TCG Pocket has launched its hotly-anticipated trading feature
  • But reception seems to have been somewhat frosty
  • Fortunately, there’s also a brand new expansion with Space-Time Smackdown to enjoy!

Well, as we come to the close of January and the rest of the year finally seems to be opening up those of you who are top fans of Pokémon TCG Pocket have an extra reason to be cheerful. And that’s because the hotly-anticipated trading feature is debuting today, alongside a major new expansion with Space-Time Smackdown!

First of all, trading, how does it work? Well, put simply it allows you to trade cards with friends just as you would in real life. Of course, there are some restrictions such as only certain rarities (1-4 and 1-star) being tradeable and the need for resources (trade hourglasses and trade tokens) to trade, but overall it’s a pretty major addition.

And there’s plenty to explore besides! Because alongside trading the major new expansion Space-Time Smackdown has just debuted. Bringing iconic legendary Pokémon Diagla and Palkia to TCG Pocket. That’s alongside the debut of Sinnoh region starters Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup, and a whole lot more!

Of course, not everyone is pleased about the new trading feature, and word on the street is that there’s been somewhat of a frosty reception. I’m not surprised because while I think the new feature is a good one to include and is established as well as it can be, no doubt the fact there are so many caveats is a major problem.

I think that Pokémon TCG Pocket would have been better off either not having trading at all or making it as free as possible without all the need for resources or restraints on cards being traded. Fortunately, there are rumblings that the developers will be keeping an eye on the feature’s reception, so new changes may not be far away.
