Police and firefighters attacked with fireworks
Three teenagers have been arrested after fireworks were thrown at police and firefighters during Bonfire Night in Manchester.
A large group of people were reported to have been throwing fireworks and missiles on Vine Street, Gorton, at 16:15 GMT on Tuesday.
Supt Richard McNamara said three males aged between 16 and 18 had been arrested on suspicion of causing violent disorder and were in custody for questioning, with further arrests to follow.
“It is shocking that we are seeing fireworks being used as a weapon towards emergency services as they try and keep our communities safe,” he said.
“Thankfully, there were no reported injuries made to us and, despite fireworks being aimed at our officers, I am also pleased to say that no officers were injured.”
Supt McNamara said officers were pursuing several lines of enquiry “that will ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice”.
He added the force had been working alongside others in the area throughout the evening, deploying joint patrols with youth services and Greater Manchester Fire Service.
