A Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) spokesman said rangers were advised the woman had been bitten in the thigh, leaving two puncture wounds.

ā€œRangers were told that a group of international tourists arrived on the beach and that nearby campers warned them of a dingo in the area,ā€ he said.

ā€œThe dingo approached the woman while she was going to the toilet alone. She wasnā€™t carrying a stick and started to run as it approached her.

ā€œThe dingo gave chase and bit her on the left rear thigh resulting in two puncture wounds.

ā€œCampers nearby overheard and chased the dingo away.ā€

Rangers are investigating the incident and will continue patrols in the area while monitoring the animal.

Visitors and residents on Kā€™gari are reminded to remain vigilant at all times of dingoes on the island.

People are urged to keep children at armā€™s length, never walk alone and carry a stick at all times.
