Red Dead Redemption 2’s Roger Clark Admits Unlikely Aspect of His Audition Was a Big Factor for Rockstar
Red Dead Redemption 2 was released 6 years ago but remains relevant in the public eye. The game developers spared no expense to deliver a detailed open-world game set in the early 1800s and provide an authentic experience down to the most minute detail, especially with the stellar cast.
Most game developers would overlook or even fail to see the value of hiring a talented coterie of voice actors to perform motion capture; fortunately, Rockstar Games did not after hiring the right man to bring Arthur Morgan to life and give him enough room to make the character endearing.
Arthur Morgan Himself Reveals How He Landed to Role in Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar Games always had a clear vision for its next major project, how it performs, and the talent behind the game that would carry it to new heights. The game developers have been taking it slow these past few years but managed to carve out the time to port GTA 5 on next-generation hardware, but some fans hope Red Dead Redemption 2 will receive the same treatment.
The project pushed the boundaries and redefined what an open-world game could look like. Players were captivated by the insane attention to detail and fidelity, especially the robust and demanding game mechanics that can affect gameplay. Arthur Morgan takes center stage and the emotional performance of Roger Clark made every player shed tears after Chapter 6 of the prequel.
That was my second audition. I was told years later it was one of the main reasons I was cast. It’s something you’re going to be looking at a lot.

Clark and his fellow castmates spent years working on the project and the journey to complete the game is pure magic. The actor reveals his way of walking secured him the role and players were inspired to replicate it in real life which can be viewed as a way of honoring his character.
The veteran voice actor is proud of his work and the gaming community takes his statements and opinions with great credibility. Clark would engage with his fans and exchange thoughts about video games which is a massive departure from his character in the game. Arthur can be cold and cruel, depending on how a player takes control but in the end, he is a man of loyalty.
Roger Clark Is the Only Voice Actor Talented Enough to Bring Arthur Morgan to Life
Other players continue to play the single-player story mode to explore the map and notice little character quirks added by Clark to make Arthur much more relatable like singing while riding on horseback. Rockstar Games’ level of detail is unrivaled by allowing the voice actors to do these things and take ownership of their roles.
Clark’s portrayal of Arthur is immortalized after his win during The Game Awards of 2018 as the Best Performer. The gaming community collectively agreed that his performance was a cut above the rest and his years of hard work have paid off tenfold.
Rockstar Games did not make a mistake casting Clark and his unique way of walking allowed Arthur to stand out from the rest of the gang and other iconic video game protagonists. Other motion capture performers can try their hardest to replicate it but it will never be on the level as Clark’s.
The gaming community was uninterested in investing in a prequel character, especially with Rob Wiethoff’s John Marston standing beside him. However, after hours of gameplay, Clark’s endearing performance won over the fans.
