Call of Duty is returning to its Battle Royale roots! Call of Duty: Warzone will introduce Black Ops Royale, a brand-new mode inspired by 2018’s Blackout. The Black Ops Royale update will launch at midnight (12:00 AM EDT) on March 13.

The Black Ops Royale mode will strip away the deep mechanics of Warzone and simply drop players into the new Avalon map to scavenge and survive. This is a return to the basics for Call of Duty, and fan excitement is inevitable.

The New Blackout-Inspired Mode Changes Warzone Forever

The Black Ops Royale mode will be nostalgic to some and alien to others. There are a whole host of changes coming to this mode that will set it apart from Warzone’s BR. Here are some of the prominent changes.

  • No Loadouts: All 100 players will drop with just a wingsuit, basic armor, a knife, and a Jäger 45 pistol. Custom Loadouts, Buy Stations, or in-game cash will not be available.
  • Weapon Archetype System: Players will not be scavenging individual attachments for their weapons. Instead, they will find Black Ops 7 weapons with predefined “Build Archetypes” (like CQB, Covert, or Stalker). Players will have to scavenge Attachment Kits to upgrade their weapons’ rarity, which will automatically unlock the weapon’s pre-set attachments.
  • No Gulag: The Gulag is completely ripped for the Black Ops Royale mode! If a player dies, their team revives them using either scavenged Redeploy Tokens or by capturing Redeployment Towers. These towers will be scattered across the Avalon map.
  • Zombies Return: The red mist, high-risk, high-reward, is back in the Black Ops Royale mode. The Cradle Breaches will spawn AI zombie hordes and special bosses. Braving this zone can reward you with Mystery Boxes containing high-tier loot.
  • Classic Blackout Gear: Nostalgia will hit the players hard as Blackout gear is coming back for the Black Ops Royale mode. Trauma Kits, Sensor Darts, and Grappling Hooks are making a comeback. Classic consumable perks are also being reintroduced and will sit in a flexible 5-slot inventory system.
