Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 Expected File Size Leaks, and You’ll Definitely Want to Invest in an SSD

GTA 6 is going to be a massive title. We’re all aware of this. But, just ‘how’ huge are we looking at? Well, according to recent leaks, it looks like the game is going to be as big as 200 GB. Or, at least just under that number. That’s still a big number, and we totally understand if you’re an Xbox Series S player and shaking right now.

However, given the fact that PS5 and Xbox Series S/X support expandable storage, you won’t have to worry about space being an issue in order to enjoy Rockstar’s next big title. Unless you’re someone who casually shuffles between 5-7 AAA titles every now and then.

The game’s ever-evolving nature can likely increase its size over time.

Recently, a post by DramaAlert on Twitter brought to attention one of the key details about GTA 6. This speculation has been quite the thing for a while now, although the recent leak has been making some noise in the community. Especially since the game will first arrive on consoles, and gamers may not have access to a huge amount of free space.

According to leakers, the game will almost be 200 GB in size, making it the biggest Grand Theft Auto that has ever existed. Even GTA 5 with all its updates requires a 90 GB download size, but never exceeds up to 200 GB unless you’re keen on adding some interesting mods.

Whilst the above leak originated from a thread on Reddit, it’s likely going to be right on the money, with the size of some games mentioned below, and Rockstar Games’ own Red Dead Redemption 2 being a gargantuan size of its own.

Nevertheless, this storage size isn’t surprising, considering how detailed the world looks from the trailer alone. Furthermore, both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X have their own methods of letting gamers have more SSD space, so there’s always hope.

Even today, GTA 5 is much smaller compared to what GTA 6 can be.

Games like Modern Warfare 3 rack up to 240GB+ on a typical PS5 console. Who’s to say this size won’t go up as new content? keeps being added to the game. This is also sometimes the reason why games like Destiny 2 have to vault entire in-game planets to make sure there’s a healthy room for players to access areas that are needed.

Given the nature of GTA 6 being ever-evolving, there’s a chance that its size is justified throughout the years. After all, you can’t have a massive landscape that’s open to free will while constraining it and limiting its physical size.

Furthermore, the game is likely to have a lot of side-quests and mini-games that will have complex mechanics, rather than being there for the sake of vanity. Rockstar clearly isn’t messing around with this one, and we’ll have to wait until we hear about more details like this.
