Rockstar Games Have a PlayStation Sized Issue Ahead of the GTA 6 Launch They’ll Be Struggling to Figure Out
Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated games to be released. Rockstar Games revealed the first trailer for the game last year and also announced the launch date and players have been counting days.
Grand Theft Auto has a massive fanbase and players are excitedly waiting for the game. However, the launch of the title only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S spells a big problem for Rockstar and it needs to figure a way out around it.
GTA 6 Has a PlayStation 4 Problem
GTA 6 is expected to be a groundbreaking experience and fans are excitedly waiting to hear more about the game from the developer. Players are not wrong to expect the game to be a significant leap over the games played so far.
However, there is a problem with the game only releasing on PlayStation 5 and not PS4. The PlayStation 5 is the most profitable console for Sony, beating the PS4 by over $34 billion in sales but there are still a large number of players who haven’t upgraded.
As per market analyst Ampere, there are over 20 million players playing GTA Online and the majority of them is on PlayStation 4 and that could cost Rockstar as the game will not be supported on the console. As per Ampere, “the most active platform for the game ‘by some distance’ is PS4.”
This means that more than ten million players are still playing on the console and while some may upgrade to play GTA 6, many of them are unlikely to and given the overall number of players on PlayStation 4 and 5, Rockstar has to figure something out if it wants everyone to play the game on launch.
Can GTA 6 Push Gamers to Upgrade?
The game has a hype unlike no other game and it is evident with the response and reaction from gamers all over the world on the reveal trailer. Moreover, the game may also not come to PC for a couple of years at least so it is possible that players may not resist their urge to wait for it to come to PC and may finally upgrade.
Of course, it is important to take into account the economic situation but seeing how GTA 5 broke records upon launch, Grand Theft Auto 6 will surely take the numbers further.
Moreover, Rockstar Games is expected to support GTA Online on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for the game even after the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 but it will surely face issues.
This will mainly be because the developer will have to maintain two different kinds of player base. This may cause some problem for the company but if any studio can do this it is Rockstar Games.
