Rumored Call of Duty x Halo Collab in Modern Warfare 3 That Was Canceled Can Still Happen
Halo and Call of Duty are two of the biggest names in the gaming world, and there is nothing that hardcore fans wouldn’t have given up for a collaboration between the two. We ultimately got so close to one, only for it to be taken away in its last moments.
Fortunately, what many are forgetting is the changed circumstances. Bearing in mind that Microsoft now owns the Activision group, albeit after a long and tough legal battle, a collab between the two IPs can still happen, and it will without a doubt break the internet.
Call of Duty and its failed collaboration with Halo
Seeing Master Chief do a 360-no-scope trickshot on you is possibly the only time you won’t get mad for getting eliminated in Call of Duty. And what could have been reality faded away into nothingness.
As noted by Insider Gaming, leaks suggest that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was all set to release a collaboration with Halo back in the day, only for it to be canceled and the blueprints to be sent to the void. Not only would the said crossover would have brought iconic maps of the Halo franchise into COD, but potentially other weapons and outfits as well, if the studio deemed it fit.
Many speculate that legal issues possibly stood in the way. It’s important to keep in mind that before Microsoft completed its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2023, both franchises were still technically owned by competing companies, especially in the FPS space.
With Microsoft now owning both Call of Duty and Halo, the barriers that once made a crossover impossible have essentially disappeared. The company has also shown how it is willing to leverage its IPs across different games, as seen with Halo content appearing in Fortnite and Fall Guys.
Why a collaboration between the two games is the biggest win for Microsoft
There is nothing a corporation like Sony and Microsoft loves more than money, and the golden-egg-laying goose has shown itself to the latter once again. Give the fans what they want, and they will shell out all the money they have in their wallet to see Master Chief doing trick shots around in NukeTown.
The potential for a Halo crossover is limitless, and given Microsoft’s control over both franchises, the only thing standing in the way is execution. Do it wrong, and you will become the biggest enemy of more than half the gamer population around the globe.
Not only the said collaboration will boost the player count right back up for the Call of Duty franchise, but in a more serious outcome, it might just save Halo from becoming a thing of the past forever given its constant decline.
