Should You Spare or Kill Vaeric

The Shattered Space expansion has finally released, and the gaming community wasted no time diving into the planet of Va’ruun’kai to accomplish new story missions. The game developers of Bethesda Game Studios saw the opportunity to expand the base game and introduce new content like weapons and items which is ideal for this new story expansion.

Player choice plays a key role in this expansion and these choices will have serious ramifications down the line. Letting players decide the best course of action is a unique way of giving them ownership of this experience and encouraging them to think critically.

Killing Vaeric in Shattered Space

In the latest Starfield expansion, players are tasked to track and hunt down Vaeric, the missing son from House Veth’aal. Killing the character will have a few rewards like gear that can be looted from his body and will grant players access to mission rewards like 1000 XP points and a few credits for returning with proof of death.

Killing Vaeric seems to be the fastest and easiest solution to advance the story; however, it is sad to see Viktor Veth’aal brand his son a traitor and hire players to bring him his head. It may not be patricide but to a certain degree, players are an accessory to the crime.

Perhaps it is best to avoid rushing the campaign and take the time to think about the possible repercussions of each action like deciding to kill or spare Vaeric.

Sparing and Extorting Vaeric in Shattered Space

There is an option where no blood will be shed, and all parties involved can move on and live their lives however they want. Sparing Vaeric will require players to bring the Signet ring to his father as proof.

Other members of the House of Veth’aal will express their disappointment towards the players not knowing that Vaeric is alive and well, and players would have successfully tricked Viktor to gain the basic mission rewards and the main quest codes.

This option is far less violent, and everyone gets out unscathed. However, there is another way to gain a few extra credits from this option. Vaeric can be asked to cough up 10000 credits in exchange for his life and freedom with the Signet ring for proof of death. This is arguably the best option since no one dies, players can advance the storyline and gain more credits on top of it.

Another option is to peacefully persuade Vaeric to return home and take his rightful claim as the heir of the House of Veth’raal; unfortunately, this is not what Vaeric wants but it is an option to keep him alive without lying to his father. Sparing and extorting Vaeric is the best way to do the mission and is a win-win for everyone involved.

Clearly, running away can cause more unwanted problems. Vaeric painted a target on his back and his father had to outsource his solutions to eliminate his son, and this is some family drama that no one wants to be dragged into.
