Six dead mice found at this Fort Worth restaurant, latest health inspection records show

Two Fort Worth restaurants were temporarily closed due to serious health violations, city records show. A rodent infestation and dead mice were found at one restaurant.

There were 174 restaurant inspections between Dec. 29 and Jan. 11, according to city data compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Jmn Chicken Mart at 6150 Ramey Ave. was closed because inspectors discovered various unsanitary conditions like dead roaches, rodent infestation and six dead mice found in the kitchen area. The restaurant scored 24 demerits.

Sausage Shoppe On The Go at 6513 Brentwood Stair Road was closed after the restaurant did not have running water due to city repairs. The business scored 9 demerits.

The inspectors observed rodent droppings in two other food establishments — Ronnie’s Catfish #6 at 4158 E Rosedale St. B and Quality Inn & Suites at 2000 Beach St.

Fort Worth inspection scores are based on a demerit system. Food establishments receiving more than 30 demerits have 48 hours to fix the worst problems and then clean up the rest. Zero demerits is a perfect score.

Three restaurants received over 30 demerits.

Fiesta Mexican Foods at 3233 Hemphill St. had multiple health violations including cross contamination, and damaged, spoiled or recalled food items. Inspectors observed employees not washing their hands, and dead crickets in the kitchen area among others. The restaurant scored 38 demerits.

El Palenque Bakery at 2716 Jacksboro Highway scored 31 demerits. The health inspectors observed various hazards like dirty food contact surfaces, toxic chemicals which are not approved for use in a food facility, inadequate hand washing supplies, and employees without accredited food handler certification.

Heaven’s Gate Restaurant at 3820 N. Main St. also scored 31 demerits. The restaurant had multiple violations including employees not following proper procedures for hand washing, and health inspectors noted food not being stored and labeled properly, and dirty equipment.

The health inspectors noted that these four businesses also had roaches:

East Food Mart at 2740 Sandy Lane. Score: 22

Paul’s Donuts Subs & Gyros at 1324 Hemphill St. Score: 21

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken at 7289 S. Hulen St. Score: 19

Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe at 4700 Bryant Irvin Road. Score: 12

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Fort Worth for Dec 29th – Jan. 11th, 2025. Scores are based on a demerit system. When the total exceeds 30, the restaurant must take immediate corrective action on all identified critical violations, then has 48 hours to initiate corrective action on all other violations.
