Slay the Spire 2 Launches Into Early Access In 2025

During today’s Triple-I Initiative showcase, Slay the Spire 2 got a new trailer revealing that it will launch into early access in 2025.

The original Slay the Spire first launched in 2019 to rave reviews. In fact, the game still has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, so there’s a lot of anticipation for the sequel.

Today’s trailer did not confirm an exact release date. It was also fully cinematic, so it didn’t reveal any actual gameplay, either. But it did give fans a general glimpse of the potential story. It also teased a major character return, with the simple ominous phrase “hello…again.”

Although some gamers have grown a little tired with the roguelike deckbuilder genre, Slay the Spire remains a staple with lots of potential. It’s unfortunate that the devs couldn’t reveal more. But it is smart to release the game into Early Access, allowing the time to smooth out any potential technical hiccups.

Fortunately, the Slay the Spire 2 Steam page does include a few sparse details. It confirms the sequel “was completely rewritten from the ground up in a new game engine.” The page also teases an all-new, “ever-changing spire.”

The Triple-I Initiative showcase is a valuable spotlight for indie creatives, featuring dozens of announcements from over 30 studios. Slay the Spire 2’s announcement will surely be a highlight, after so many years of waiting for the sequel.

The Triple-I livestream’s YouTube description proudly emphasizes there are “no ads, no extra fluff.” It’s definitely a satisfying approach. Although, the comment does seem like an off-hand reference to the divisive Game Awards 2023 event.
