‘Something I never allowed us to do on Uncharted’ on Her Star Wars Plan That Was Guaranteed Success

Amy Hennig is a well-known name in the gaming industry. She has worked on various popular projects, but undoubtedly, her best and most popular creation was the Uncharted series. Under Visceral Games, Hennig was working on Project Ragtag, a game set in the Star Wars universe. Unfortunately, Visceral Games was shut down, and we never got more of Project Ragtag.

In 2019, Amy Hennig appeared for an interview with Eurogamer. During the conversation, Hennig talked about her time at Visceral Games while working on Project Ragtag. As the creator of the Uncharted series, she felt that the genre of the Star Wars franchise was very similar to Uncharted’s, but she had a different approach to this one thing,

I realized a couple of things: if we were going to make a Star Wars story, a lot of it would look and feel like Uncharted because it’s in the same genre. But we needed to cut away to the villains, for one thing, which was something I never allowed us to do on Uncharted. If you look at those films, you don’t really cut away from what Indy knows. There’s a few exceptions but you’re more or less with him the whole time. And Star Wars, not only do we cut between villains but we also cut between multiple protagonists.

By taking this approach, Hennig would’ve certainly caused some debates among the Star Wars community. However, it doesn’t mean that the game would’ve been a failure. The success of the Uncharted series proves that Hennig is an experienced individual in this field.

Visceral Games was a subsidiary of Electronic Arts and unfortunately, in 2017, EA announced Visceral Games’ shutdown. After the shutdown, EA claimed that the game’s development was rebooted by EA Vancouver to become an open-world title. However, the development was ultimately shut down.

The game was supposed to be a linear game about a large-scale heist, taking place after the events of Star Wars IV: A New Hope. In an official statement, EA claimed that they needed to pivot the design “to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come.

Amy Hennig’s take on a Star Wars game would’ve been certainly exciting. We can only hope that in the future, some major video game decides to pick up this project with Hennig. Do you think her Star Wars game would’ve been a success? Share your views in the comments!
