Sonic the Hedgehog 3 introduces new settings

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will explore a completely new setting as stakes have never been higher. We can expect a new trailer soon.

A care package was sent to press, with The Hollywood Handle sharing on Twitter the stuff found within. The biggest part of the package, though, was a case simulating the Sega Genesis cases. On the back, it details that Sonic and co will have to go far and wide to protect the planet, specifically naming London and Tokyo. Oh, and space, too.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 features the trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles teaming up with Robotnik in order to save the world from Shadow the Hedgehog. Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey return to their roles with James Marsden, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Tika Sumpter also set to appear. It will also introduce Keanu Reeves into the mix as the — likely — misunderstood antagonist, Shadow.

It’s already been revealed that the third film will rely quite a bit on the existing lore of Shadow’s backstory, with nods to the standalone spin-off while also probably taking cues from the Adventure line.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 heads to theaters on December 20.
