Sony Reportedly Gunning for Rocksteady’s New Batman Game is the Right Move for 1 Simple Reason Even if Xbox is Left Out

With the failure of Concord and PlayStation 5 Pro, the last couple of weeks have been quite rough for Sony and PlayStation. The company has invested significantly in outputting more games and advancing its consoles in the last five years. However, it seems like these efforts haven’t been quite enough to draw in gamers.

Sony is looking for its next smash hit, and it seems like they’ve found one. Rocksteady is developing a new Batman game, and the Japanese company is pushing for exclusivity. While this might leave out Xbox gamers, it all makes sense when you think about it.

There’s no denying the fact that Rocksteady completely messed up with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. However, the studio seems to be going back to its roots, the Batman: Arkham series. The games’ featuring the iconic superhero kicked off with Arkham Asylum being considered to be the peak of action-adventure experiences in the industry.

Ever since Arkham Knight‘s release, which was way back in 2015, gamers have been desperate to return to a form, and it looks like they might get their wishes. Reputable insider Shpeshal_Nick believes that Rocksteady is looking to take another shot at Batman games.

While it’s good news for the fans of the Arkham franchise, there’s another aspect of the rumor that’s quite interesting. According to insiders, PlayStation is trying its best to “moneyhat” in some way.

While Nick doesn’t state exclusivity, what else could the Japanese company be throwing money around for other than some type of exclusivity, or permanent one, involving PS5 or PS5, depending on when this game hits the shelves. It could also be something like marketing rights, as seen with GTA 6 or some PS Plus deal.

Whatever the case might end up being, it’s great to see that Sony is the one picking up such an iconic game. The company, with its hits such as The Last of Us, God of War, and Spider-Man, has proven that it can deliver narrative-driven experiences that simply can’t be matched.

Sure, the exclusivity deal might mean that the Batman game would never make it to Xbox, but that’s a sacrifice for a quality game. Microsoft doesn’t have a good history when it comes to AAA single-player games. We can’t forget about the tragedy of Halo and Starfield.

Rocksteady’s Return to Batman Games

The Batman: Arkham titles were known for putting Rocksteady on the map, so the announcement that the studio was gearing up to move towards Suicide Squad alarmed fans right from the start. Kill the Justice League was a massive failure and damaged the studio’s reputation. Considering all this, returning to Batman could be the way ahead.

Warner Bros. Montreal tried to carry forward Arkham‘s philosophy with Gotham Knight, but the game’s botched combat and horrendous open-world led to gamers requesting Rocksteady’s return. There are still multiple ways for the studio to pick up where it left off with Batman, as he’s open to many interpretations.

Whether or not we’ll see a fourth Batman: Arkham title is unclear, but it would be a clear choice. Returning to the series that made the studio popular would be a way to get past the failures of Kill the Justice League.

With that said, are you excited about another Batman game? If so, let us know in the comments below.
