Space Marine 2 bossā€™s supposed comment condemns ā€˜games that impose moralsā€™

A comment supposedly posted on YouTube by Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch hasĀ condemned games that ā€œimpose morals on gamersā€.

The comment, which was posted on a little-used YouTube account using Matthew Karchā€™s name, sparked questions about if the account belonged to Karch himself or an impersonator.

Space Marine 2 studio Saber Interactive has refused to comment on the matter, and now a post on LinkedIn has suggested the comment is legitimately from Karch.

In response to another LinkedIn user sharing the original comment, Karchā€™s LinkedIn account replied, ā€œWhoever wrote that seems pretty sharp,ā€ seemingly confirming its legitimacy.

ā€œI love your videos,ā€ read the original YouTube comment, which was posted in response to a video by streamer Asmongold.

Space Marine 2 bossā€™s supposed comment condemns ā€˜games that impose moralsā€™

ā€œWhen we signed the deal to make Space Marine 2, all I wanted was a throwback game. We had the chance to work on something which by its nature was ā€˜old schoolā€™. I canā€™t even comprehend many of the current games that we play these days. They are too complex and too much of an investment.

ā€œThat is what we wanted to recapture. I hope that games like Space Marine 2 and Wukong are the start of a reversion to a time when games were simply about fun and immersion. I spent some time as Chief Operating Officer at Embracer and I saw games there that made me want to cry with their overblown attempts at messaging or imposing morals on gamers.ā€

Earlier this year, Embracer sold off Saber Interactive, the group which is home to studios 3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks and more, for $247 million.

Another comment left on the same video, which claims to be from an account belonging to creative directorĀ  Oliver Hollis-Leick read: ā€œEverything you have to say about the story and characters resonates so strongly with our actual approach.

ā€œItā€™s great to hear you calling out the exact things that we intentionally focused on. It was four and a half years of intense work and passion and watching videos like this makes it all worth it.ā€
