Space Marine 2 Devs Had Already Triggered All Fans With Nerf Warnings Mere Weeks Ago

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has found itself in a situation all too familiar to gamers. Focus Home Interactive’s recent Q&A session hinted at weapon nerfs, and fans haven’t taken this well. The recent patch nerfed the Melta Gun by a whopping 70% and also had balance changes for other game mechanics.

With many already drawing parallels to Helldivers 2‘s disastrous weapon nerfs, Space Marine 2 players are holding their breath for the next patch. This has been one of the most successful games of the year. It’d be a shame for this to be its downfall.

Space Marine 2 Really Shouldn’t Follow In The Steps of Helldivers 2

During the Q&A session, developers mentioned upcoming changes aimed at toning down some overpowered elements. Most notably, the Melta Gun, which had a bug allowing players to heal beyond a certain health threshold, was set to be reworked. And the rework is here with the Melta Charge now doing 70% less damage to bosses.

Saber fixed the bug but also included the nerf while trying to frame the change as a bugfix. And the community is already getting flashbacks to Helldivers 2. There’s already a Reddit thread titled ‘We Don’t Need Nerfs, We Need Buffs’ and ‘What’s with all the bulls*it nerfs’ with hundreds of players calling out the nerf.

Players have expressed their frustration, with one fan stating, “Saying nerf to everything that performs above the worst guns in the game is a quick way to send this game to the grave like Helldivers 2.” Many fear that these changes could severely impact the playability and enjoyment of the game.

In addition to PvE, PvP weapon balancing was also on the agenda, with specific attention to melee combat and the strength of shock grenades, bulwark, and heavy weapons in certain game modes.

The developers have noted that they “don’t want to make rash decisions before seeing the global picture.” So let’s hope they listen to community feedback from this change and make future changes accordingly.

Focus Home Interactive also hinted at potential buffs, specifically for the underperforming Assault Class and Bolt Rifle. These possible buffs could shift the balance to a more neutral state, at least among fans. But the community probably just doesn’t want to see mistakes that we’ve seen in other games.

Despite this though, players have taken to Steam to express their problems with the direction the game was heading. The game was review bombed on Steam shortly after the nerfs.

It’s still doing great, even breaking 4.5 million players recently, but the influx of negative reviews is a clear sign of what players want.

The developers have promised that these changes aren’t final and that they’ll continue to monitor feedback. However, for many players, the damage may already be done. But the question remains: Will Focus Home Interactive listen to its community, or will Space Marine 2 follow in the footsteps of other titles?

Like all fans, Space Marine 2 fans want action and not empty promises. For now, we have to wait and see what the developers think of this super one-sided community response.

What do you think of the possibility that Space Marine 2 could go down the same path as Helldivers 2? Let us know in the comments!
