Space Marine 2 DLC Will Use Copy the Same Strategy That Worked Wonders for Another Saber Game
There’s no denying the fact that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has effectively dominated much of the conversation within the video gaming community after its release back in September, bringing players back into the dark world of Warhammer 40k universe.
Space Marine 2‘s success isn’t a shock considering the effort of developer Saber Interactive to craft this masterpiece. The studio is already planning to bring a DLC and wants to follow the same formula that made one of its biggest projects, World War Z, a success to remember.
Saber Plans to Follow World War Z to Develop Space Marine 2 DLCs
While chatting with IGN, Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer at Saber Interactive, opened up about the success of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2. He stated that the development team is already thinking about ways to follow up on the successful game with DLCs and even bring a potential third entry into the series.
It’s still unclear what these DLCs could end up being for the Space Marine sequel. However, Saber has already decided to mirror World War Z‘s success for releasing the upcoming DLCs. According to Willits, one of the reasons why the game was a smash hit was due to a clever tactic when it came to releasing new DLCs and free classes.
One of the reasons why we got 25 million people in World War Z is because every time we release a new DLC pack or a free class and we had a sale, people buy it. We literally see a spike. We put out a video promoting a new character pack, we see a spike in sales. So it just drives attention and drives awareness.
Every time Saber brought some new content drops for World War Z, the studio put them on sale, which made players flock to the game.
As Willits explains, whenever new content is released for any game, it just takes one player to alarm another group, which ends up creating a mentality of missing out. Such things lead to hoards of players making small purchases together, boosting sales numbers for DLCs.
Unlike a lot of big developers in the gaming industry, Saber already recognized the formula for bringing worthy post-launch additions to its game and monetizing them in the best way possible to boost revenue.
Let’s hope that the studio can carry forward this momentum with Space Marine 2, which, despite its positive reviews, has come under massive scrutiny in recent weeks.
Saber Interactive Cares About Warhammer 40k Community
One thing about Saber is that it isn’t like your average AAA gaming studio, as it clearly prioritizes player feedback over everything. Recently, Space Marine 2 managed to create outrage in its entire community with the release of 4.0 Patch, which made even the easiest game mode ten times more difficult.
However, Saber actually listened to the feedback regarding the update. After observing the frustration among gamers, the studio acknowledged that it missed the mark with the Space Marine 2 update and brought in various balancing changes with 4.1 Patch that reduced spawn rates of multiple enemies and fixed various other issues.
It’s incredible to see that after receiving a large amount of negative feedback, the developers made some changes to make the game easier for everyone. This kind of dedication is rare in the community and proves that Space Marine 2‘s future is bright.
