Space Marine 2 May Well Have Cut One of the Most-Anticipated Weapons Right in Front of Our Eyes
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is Saber Interactive’s forthcoming sequel to the 2011 title set in the popular franchise’s grim-torn universe. The game will see the return of the Ultramarine Titus, helped by his comrades Gadriel and Chairon, as they’re challenged with assisting the righteous battle against hordes of relentless Tyranids.
Based on the early Space 2 Marine previews, the game’s third-person shooting action and hack-n-slash gameplay look phenomenal. The developer has done an incredible job expanding upon the game with new features while maintaining the core philosophy of the original title. However, the developers have dropped the ball by cutting the franchise’s most iconic weapon out of the sequel.
Space Marine 2 Might Have Ditched Flamer
The Warhammer 40k universe is filled with lethal weapons for players to enjoy and eradicate the enemy. With the coming of Space Marine 2, many expected Saber Interactive would expand upon that, but it seems otherwise.
In the game’s official gameplay trailers, Saber made it a point to focus on the franchise’s most iconic weapon, Flamer. However, in the recent preview videos, the weapon is missing, which has concerned many on Reddit who were looking forward to using the weapon against Tryanids.
Do we know what happened to the Flamer?

If you’re unfamiliar, Flamer is one of the most crucial weapons in the Warhammer franchise. It’s a key unit for Chaos Space Marines, particularly the Thousands of Sons faction.
This weapon can unleash devastating area-of-effect damage, which works perfectly against a horde of enemies and can ruin enemy formations. You can’t control the battlefield and pressure your enemies without Flamer.
It would be truly disappointing for such a weapon not to make it to the final build of Space Marine 2. However, there’s a high chance that Saber Interactive has yet to feature all the weapons in early previews and might be having them for the full release.
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is Right Around the Corner
Earlier in 2024, publisher Focus Entertainment announced an open beta for Space Marine 2 to test new gameplay modes; it later canceled it. This concerned many in the community, as such cases usually lead to delays in releases.
However, through an X/Twitter post last month, Focus Entertainment announced that Space Marine 2 has gone gold and is ready for its debut. The studio confirmed that the game will launch on September 9 in the very same post.

The timeframe between the reveal of the game, its delay, and the release date announcement can all be attributed to the development team’s big ambitions.
The studio wants the title to be flawless and the perfect sequel. The developers have introduced multiple aspects, such as PvP mode and a large-scale co-op PvE mode dubbed Operations, to achieve this.
Space Marine 2 will be available for purchase both physically and digitally. Gamers who pre-order any edition of the title will get four days of early access, while Gold+ editions will also come with the Season Pass!
