Space Marine 2 Slyly Avoids Controversy After Getting Called Out for Including Epic Games’ Most Notorious Agreement Without Any Prior Declaration
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is now a certified critical darling, garnering rave reviews for its gameplay, combat, and especially its presentation. Without a shadow of a doubt, the game is going to go down as one of this year’s very best and possibly even content for Game of The Year award at the end of it.
That being said, though, the excitement and hype have unfortunately soured for a portion of the game’s player base thanks to Saber Interactive’s latest move, sparking both debate and disappointment.
Space Marine 2 Disappoints Many of Its Players by Including Mandatory Install of Epic Online Services
To reiterate, Warhammer 40K is an absolute banger time, so much so that we couldn’t even take our hands off of it. However, taking a look at the game’s reviews on Steam might paint a completely different picture than the one we describe.
You see, after freeing itself from the clutches of Denuvo DRM, to much appreciation from the community, after booting the game in its current pre-purchase period, people were shocked to find that the PC versions require the installation of Epic Online Services.
Naturally, the revelation did not sit well with many within the game’s player base. This would, then, directly lead to a review-bombing campaign on Steam. Unfortunately for these people, Saber Interactive is pretty quick on the draw.
EOS is a crucial feature that enables cross-platform play and preserves player connections across stores like Steam and Epic. Granted, it comes with the significant drawback that players must agree to terms that waive their right to sue Epic Games. However, Saber has made it clear to the community that it is an optional feature, and players can choose to ignore it.
As The Emperor protects all, many came to defend the developers here, dropping positive reviews to restore the balance against unwarranted review bombing and give Warhammer 40K the ratings it deserves.
Regardless of Epic Online Services, Space Marine 2 Remains a Solid Contender for Game of the Year
Even with all Epic Online Services-related frustrations, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 continues to impress people with its detailed world and unbelievably gory combat. It’s a masterfully crafted gameplay look that rewards both strategic thinking and skill.
PvE operations and PvP modes have also been well-implemented, with little to no hiccups as far as the ears can hear, all fully loaded with class customization, dynamic playstyles, and a multitude of iconic weapons.
That said, even if you’re not particularly deep into the Warhammer universe, Space Marine 2 still deserves your attention. It’s a standout entry in the series that is well worth just about everyone’s time.
