Spider-Man’s Kirsten Dunst Says She Would Make Another Superhero Movie “Because You Get Paid A Lot Of Money”

Kirsten Dunst famously played Mary Jane alongside Tobey Maguire in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, but the actress hasn’t returned to the superhero space since. Could that change? Speaking to Marie Claire, Dunst said “yes” when asked if she would come back in some way.

“Because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother,” she said.

Dunst played Mary Jane in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3. After she wrapped up her run with Spider-Man 3 in 2007, she made smaller movies like Melancholia and On the Road. After those, she appeared in the Oscar-nominated movie Hidden Figures, and then starred on the TV show On Becoming a God in Central Florida. In 2021, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her starring role in the Netflix movie The Power of the Dog.

Dunst’s latest project is the movie Civil War, which releases in theaters this April. The Alex Garland film depicts a future version of America on the brink of civil war, with Dunst playing a photojournalist covering what’s going down.

“When I read the script, I thought, ‘I’ve never done anything like this,'” Dunst said. “I just love that [Garland is] someone who pushes boundaries.”

As for the Spider-Man series, Sandman actor Thomas Hayden Church recently said he believes Raimi and Maguire are up to make another Spider-Man film. Whether or not this is actually going to happen, or if Dunst could be a part of it, remains to be seen.
