St. Louis BBQ burglar defecates, leads police pursuit

ST. LOUIS — A man led police on a high-speed chase after breaking into a barbeque restaurant and trying to hit a witness with his vehicle. James Macy, 54, faces charges that include assault, armed criminal action, burglary, resisting arrest, and property damage.

Court documents state that Macy broke into the Hogtown Smokehouse at 6301 Clayton Avenue on September 9 by prying back a metal window covering. Inside, he allegedly damaged property and defecated in several locations in the basement. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Macy outside the building.

Later, Macy allegedly attempted to use his vehicle to strike a cyclist. A witness intervened, using their own vehicle to protect the victim. Macy then drove onto the sidewalk in an attempt to hit the cyclist again before driving away.

When police tried to stop Macy, he allegedly sped off, reaching speeds of approximately 90 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when Macy’s vehicle struck a pole, leading to his arrest.

Macy is currently being held without bond.
