Starfield: How to Recruit Vasco

Starfield’s universe is vast and full of dangers, where roaming around alone is not safe. Considering this part, Bethesda has included NPCs, whom you will meet and recruit as your companions. Vasco is among them. So, if you are looking for some help to know how to recruit Vasco, our Starfield guide is ready with all the necessary information.

Human companions are great, for sure, but AI companions are not bad either. Vasco is one of the very first robot companions whom you can recruit to your team. The process is a bit complicated, but a little guidance will resolve everything. Let’s check out the process step-by-step to make it easily understandable.

Where to Find Vasco in Starfield

When you meet Vasco for the first time in Starfield, it will be a casual companion, but not a teammate.

If you are not willing to explore the Starfield world alone, the game offers you over 20 companions to recruit to your team. Vasco is one of the first among them. This robot is designed in a way that it can be a great option to support players during missions.

Despite hating violence, Vasco has the ability to protect itself from any danger. Additionally, it can traverse rough terrain while carrying a much larger load.

Vasco is difficult to miss because it is part of Starfield‘s main story. Once you have completed the tutorial mission, make your way out with Supervisor Lin, and he will introduce you to Barrett. This interaction will lead you to the first battle of the game, though it will be a tutorial to understand the combat system.

After this interaction, progress through the game and liberate the Space Pirates. Once this is done, it is time to speak to Barrett once again, and this time he will introduce you to Vasco.

Approach and interact with Vasco to recruit the robot to your team officially.

After your first meeting with Vasco, it will follow you around, but technically, he is not your team member. You will soon realize this when you reach The Lodge and Sarah Morgan replaces this robot. Well, let’s start from the beginning.

Once Berrett introduces Vasco, he will instruct the robot to follow you around in every mission. That’s what Vasco will do until you reach the Constellation Lodge and start completing all the objectives there. Doing these objectives will make Sarah join you as a traveling companion, though she is also not a recruited member of your crew at that moment.

As soon as Sarah chooses to travel with you, Vasco will stay in The Lodge, roaming around alone. At this point, if you don’t want to leave Vasco behind, you can get back to the robot and talk to it. Until you return to talk to it, Vasco will be there. So, don’t worry about its disappearance.

Go to the robot and interact with it. Express your desire to have it with you during your journey, and Vasco will agree to accompany you. This will let it join your team officially, and don’t worry if its status is ‘Unassigned.’ It will still be on the ship with you and can be assigned work anytime you want.

Tip

Recruiting Vasco can’t be done until you complete the first story mission One Small Step. This mission will take you to The Lodge.

If you don’t want to recruit Vasco, there’s no need to get back to The Lodge once Sarah joins you as a travel companion.

Before you ask Vasco to join your team, it is normal that you would like to know about the robot’s stats and whether it is a suitable companion.

Vasco’s Skills in Starfield: Should You Recuit Vasco?

Vasco is not the best companion, still, it’s not wise to leave him behind.

In Starfield, there are too many activities to do, starting from selling stolen ships to upgrading weapons. Players can even add workbenches to their spaceships.

Anyway, some of these activities are even dangerous. So, having crew members is an additional advantage, and Vasco is one of the first companions to recruit.

As a robot, the romance option with Vasco is closed from the beginning, and he is not a very suitable one for assisting during missions. However, Vasco’s abilities are effective when you assign it work in the ship. Basically, all his skills are ship-related, which makes the bot an asset when it is on the ship.

Vasco has a Rank 2 Shield System, which allows it to improve your ship’s shield system by 40%. Additionally, this robot comes with Rank 1 Aneutronic Fusion, which enables your ship to produce one extra unit of power.

Finally, it has the most attractive ability, Rank 1 EM Weapon Systems. With this ability, your ship’s EM Weapon Systems do 10% increased damage, along with Target Mode cost reduced by 15%.

That’s almost everything you should know about how to recruit Vasco in Starfield. Whether the recruitment is worth it or not depends on your preferences, though.
