STM Loves: Perth International Jazz Festival, Fremantle Design Week, Venroy Mens and EverNow

A free event titled A Night in New York will launch this festival in style, as guests are invited to enjoy a selection of artists as they play within seven venues at Brookfield Place on October 5. A lineup of Grammy award-winning artists and favourites in the jazz scene will then perform across Perth and the South West until November 10. Esperanza Spalding — whose unique sound has impressed at the White House and the Grammys — will make her Perth debut, while DJ Carl Cox (alongside Eric Powell) returns for a high-tempo Mobile Disco. Details and tickets can be found at perthjazzfest.com.

You may not know Rhys and Zenifa Bowring by name, but you’ll definitely know the restaurants their interiors and architecture business Rezen Studio have designed. From the glitzy hotspot Gibney in Cottesloe to Fremantle’s gorgeous Vin Populi and La Lune, the award-winning practice has become renowned for its work across Western Australia. As part of Fremantle Design Week — running from October 18 to 25 — the directors will be offering a “stroll and chat” session, which will include visiting some of their projects. There is plenty to do and see across the week, with 50 design-inspired conversations, tours, films, workshops and chances to tour creative studios. LA-based filmmaker and speculative architect Liam Young’s exhibition Planetary Transition will be a highlight, while closer to home architects Michael Patroni and Dimmity Walker of spaceagency will be celebrating 40 years of their acclaimed practice with a Conversations Series event.
