Subnautica 2 is a Game Destined for Meta Quest But Forced to Live in Xbox Game Pass

When you talk about action-adventure survival games set in the underwater world, one name that comes to mind is Subnautica. This long-hailed franchise made its entry in the gaming arena a decade ago and since then has been winning the hearts of all the players for its flora and fauna aesthetics.

The fun is going to reach a whole new limit as a sequel to the first game has just been announced. Now, as an underwater game, the upcoming installment in this series is going to reach its full potential if it can be played in VR. However, as of now, that’s not the case.

We have our first official look at Subnautica 2, the next open-world exploration simulation from publishers Krafton and developers Unknown Worlds. It will be available on PC through Xbox Game Preview in 2025. Additionally, it will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

It will be set on a brand-new planet and feature four-player cooperative gameplay in addition to the return of single-player survival-o-build gameplay. This is the trailer for the reveal.

The developers have stated that you don’t need the experience of the first game to enjoy this upcoming title, as “you’ll get to explore lush new environments, encounter fascinating creatures around every corner, and uncover the secrets at the core of this mysterious planet.”

Subnautica 2 will provide you with “the eerily beautiful solitude of solo play“ as well as “new and unique experiences that will keep you on your…fins.” Players can expect new features like improved tools, vehicles, and base building, along with “a whole host of creatures big and small, the likes of which have never been seen before.”

Subnautica 2 Has Great Potential for a Superior VR Experience

We have seen how Subnautica and Subnautica: Sub Zero unleashed their potential with an immersive VR experience. The franchise has always supported mods, and VR mods were one of them. No surprise, the upcoming title will also feature various mods, and with that, players can experience the game in virtual reality.

But when you talk about VR games, Xbox consoles never come on the same page. And the upcoming title won’t be available on PlayStation either, so there’s no chance you can play it via PSVR as of now.

That is why this highly anticipated game needs to come on the Meta Quest or the Oculus VR, which will unlock the maximum potential of the game. Now, it’s up to Unknown Worlds if they are going to depict the “unknown worlds” of Subnautica 2 in virtual reality.
