Suicide Squad is delayed again on Epic Games Store as Season 1 gets dated
The Epic Games Store version of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed once again, right before the day it was set to be released.
Initially set to release in 2022, a series of severe delays saw the game finally coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam on February 2.
The Epic Games Store version was further delayed, however, and was set to release today, on March 5.
On March 4, however, the game’s official X account revealed that the Epic Games Store version has been delayed by a further three weeks.
“The Epic Games Store version of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will now release on March 26, 2024,” the message reads. “To our Epic Games Store PC community, thank you for your patience.”
It was also announced that the game’s first season of post-release content, which will include The Joker, will launch on March 28.
The game’s first month has been less than ideal, with Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels saying last month that its sales had “fallen short” of the company’s expectations.
“This year, Suicide Squad, one of our key video game releases in 2024, has fallen short of our expectations since its release earlier in the quarter,” he noted, “setting our games business up for a tough year-over-year comp in Q1.”
As the latest title from the studio behind the celebrated Batman Arkham franchise, Suicide Squad was once one of the industry’s most highly anticipated games, but enthusiasm for it seemingly waned during a protracted development cycle which included some underwhelming pre-release showings and a backlash to its live service elements.
The game released to a mixed critical reception, earning it scores of 60 (consoles) and 63 (PC) on review aggregation site Metacritic, while its launch was negatively impacted by server issues and an auto-completion bug.
Its popularity has also dropped on Steam, to the extent that its concurrent player count is now similar to (and frequently drops lower than) that of Warner Bros Games’ Gotham Knights, which was released two and a half years ago.
