Suspect arrested after violent Home Depot robbery in San Bernardino County

A man was arrested following a violent Home Depot robbery and a standoff with police in San Bernardino County.

On Wednesday, the suspect entered a Home Depot store in Upland near 8th Street and Mountain Avenue.

Surveillance video captured the man loading up a shopping cart with power tools and attempting to leave without paying before workers spotted him.

Employees locked the front door to stop him from fleeing. He tried to kick the doors open but failed to break through. That’s when he turned toward an employee and threatened him with a large crowbar, police said.

He eventually found another door to exit through and before leaving, grabbed a bag of chips from a shelf on the way out.

Pomona Police later spotted the suspect’s SUV and pulled it over. He refused to exit the car and barricaded himself inside for about 30 minutes before he was taken into custody.

Police bodycam video showed a group of officers lifting the man, who appeared to be combative, out of the SUV.

Authorities discovered the suspect also had a no-bail warrant for violating probation. The stolen merchandise was located in the trunk and later returned to the retailer.

Footage of the theft can be seen in the video player above.
