Suspect in custody after Meridian altercation involved gunshots outside gym
Update: Meridian spokesperson Stephany Galbreaith told the Idaho Statesman at 1:17 p.m. that police had a suspect in custody.
Below is the original story.
Police searched for a suspect after a parking lot incident ended with gunshots Thursday morning.
At 7:20 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the southeast corner of a business complex near Ustick and Eagle roads, Meridian spokesperson Stephany Galbreaith told the Idaho Statesman. Witnesses said two patrons of Mecca Gym approached a man outside the gym, sparking an altercation, according to Galbreaith.
Galbreaith said the man fired a handgun multiple times before fleeing northbound in a white Dodge Ram truck.
“Thankfully, no one was injured,” Galbreaith said in a message.
Witnesses described the suspect as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet, and wearing a black sweatshirt with gray sweatpants.
“We are asking residents to call dispatch should they see someone who matches the description or if they have any information on the suspect,” Galbreaith said. “Although we believe it’s an isolated incident, (we) ask residents to stay vigilant.”
Those with information can contact Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.
Police reopened the area following an investigation, a Meridian dispatcher told the Statesman.
