Switch 2 Needs a Remake of This Open World Assassin’s Creed Game Ubisoft Specifically Created for Handhelds

Recently, Nintendo unveiled a teaser for the highly anticipated, Switch 2. While the reveal was exciting and gave us the first official look at the device, the hardware details were already leaked, giving fans a pretty clear idea of what to expect. However, there’s one key aspect that has yet to be leaked or revealed: the lineup of third-party games.

When it comes to iconic franchises, there’s no shortage of options to choose from, especially for the handheld console. But what better fit than Assassin’s Creed? Particularly the title in the series that was specifically designed for handhelds and could be the perfect candidate: Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines.

A PSP masterpiece can find its new life in Switch 2

Released in 2009 for the PlayStation Portable (PSP), Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines made a huge splash in the gaming industry, at the time, by being able to deliver a console-like experience on a handheld device.

From a story perspective, the game picked up where the original Assassin’s Creed left off, allowing players to follow Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad as he continued his journey across the Mediterranean.

Despite the PSP’s technical limitations, Bloodlines offered players immersive 3D environments, detailed character models, and smooth parkour mechanics. It was a remarkable achievement as the developers showed how well an open-world game could be adapted for a portable console.

Even though the developers found success, it was clear that the PSP’s hardware wasn’t powerful enough to fully replicate the Assassin’s Creed experience. As a result, certain features had to be scaled back.

By putting in extra work and trimming a few details, the game was able to offer players fluid action, strategic stealth gameplay, and the freedom of exploration, hallmarks of the franchise.

It redefined what handheld gaming could achieve at a time when handheld was still largely limited to smaller, less ambitious titles.

Switch 2 can push the experience to the next level

With all the leaks pointing to the impressive performance of the Switch 2, it’s clear that it will far surpass what the PSP was capable of. Just imagine the experience Bloodlines could deliver on a next-gen console.

Nintendo has shown that it can make use of its limited hardware very well, the best example is The Legends of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom. Given that the latest Switch 2 is rumored to be as powerful as a PS4 Pro (in docked mode), it would be intriguing to see Bloodlines fully realized on this platform.

Ubisoft has already shown its willingness to present titles to new platforms, whether through remasters or ports. A Bloodlines remake would not only offer a great nostalgic experience but could also attract new players who have never experienced the handheld-exclusive title.

As the launch of Switch 2 comes closer, the excitement for the device is increasing, even though we know pretty much all of its details through leaks. It is clear that it will be a powerhouse for both AAA games and indie titles alike.
