Sydney Marathon: Dozens of roads to close from 3.30am as more than 40,000 runners expected
Sydney residents have been told to brace for significant delays as major roads will be closed for up to 12 hours.
An estimated 40,000 runners are expected to descend on the Harbour City on Sunday morning for the annual Sydney marathon.
Dozens of roads across several suburbs will begin to close from 3.30am before the various marathon races begin from 5.50am.

Organisers have urged residents living near the course to leave their cars at home and not drive, instead pointing to increased train and metro services to and from the city.
TransportNSW has warned bus and light rail services will be heavily impacted, encouraging anyone travelling through affected areas to explore alternative transport modes.
The Sydney Marathon is one of the largest marathons held in Australia, with each event commencing at North Sydney Oval before heading over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The 10km and 4.2km routes will end at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music while the 42km marathon will finish at the Opera House Forecourt.

Those needing to travel east or west across the court are advised the Cross City Tunnel will be toll-free from 5am to 3pm on Sunday however long delays are expected.
Motorists are advised to refer to the live traffic website for information and live traffic reports.
A high-visibility police operation will be in place for the duration of the event.
