Take-Two says GTA 6 and Borderlands 4 won’t release near each other: ‘No one would stack huge releases’

Take-Two Interactive has indicated that it will put distance between the releases of its two big upcoming titles, Grand Theft Auto 6 and Borderlands 4, despite them both due out within the same 12-month window.

In its latest earnings results published on Wednesday, Take-Two reiterated the intention of its Rockstar brand to release GTA 6 in Fall 2025, as previously announced.

CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked by Variety if this meant it could cross paths with Gearbox’s Borderlands 4, which is due to release some time during its next fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.

“I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily,” Zelnick replied.

The first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was released in December 2023, confirming a planned 2025 release date. Updating its financial guidance in May, Take-Two narrowed the game’s release window from calendar 2025 to the fall of next year.

Borderlands 4, meanwhile, was announced during a Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast in August, for release in 2025.

“In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet,” reads the description accompanying the reveal trailer.
