Tallahassee police investigate homicide at hemp shop; ‘all involved parties identified’
The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a homicide at a Florida Hemp Distribution store.
Officers arrived at the business located at 220 West Tennessee Street just before 6 p.m. where they found “an adult male deceased inside the business,” according to a TPD news alert.
The homicide was a result of a shooting, TPD spokesperson Heather Merritt said, marking the 47th serious shooting in the capital city and county this year.
According to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence, 18 people have died and at least 39 people have been injured so far in 2024.
All involved parties have been identified, but no one has been taken into custody as of Friday night. Merritt said whether the victim and suspect knew each other and the circumstances of the fatal shooting are still under investigation.
The Tallahassee Police Department investigates a homicide at a hemp store in the wake of Hurricane Helene, Sept. 27, 2024.
“Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with an officer on scene, to please call 850-891-4200,” TPD said. “They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.”
The murder occurred in the hours after Tallahassee and dozens of other cities began to pick up the pieces left in Hurricane Helene’s wake.
