Tekken 8 is Finally Giving Cheaters a Beatdown After Massive Hats Take Over Online Multiplayer
Tekken 8 feels like poetry in motion when things are going right. A beautiful fighting game that features some of the best combatants in the world — and a bear or two for good measure — duking it out to be crowned the King of the Iron Fist tournament. However, players taking the fight online are being griefed by a brand new foe who isn’t an overpowered newcomer, but rather, a giant hat.
It appears that PC players are increasing the size of certain accessories, primarily Hats or other large accessories, to 500% of their normal size, which hides their character completely and ruins the fun of anyone trying to climb up the ranks and become a master at their craft. While players can turn off cross-play to engage in the fun with players on their family of consoles, a better anti-cheat measure should be implemented first to ensure things like this cannot happen.
And that appears to be part of Harada’s plan — after receiving countless numbers of cheating reports via X and the in-game report function, a general set of guidelines has gone live explaining what is considered cheating in Tekken 8, alongside punishments that players may receive.
If you encounter a cheating player, make sure to use the in-game reporting feature to let the team know that you’ve encountered someone who is making the online portion of this game insufferable. Action should take place shortly. As Harada has mentioned above, implementations will continue throughout March, so keep an eye on that player who has been griefing you and see if they’re even around anymore.
Not only will this target those ruining the game with cosmetics, but it appears that pluggers will be targeted in this wave of bans — meaning those who love to disconnect when a match doesn’t go their way to keep their Win Streaks going. You don’t need to worry if you have bad internet and have lost connection a couple of times, as this will be going after those who continuously “lose connection” at very convenient times.
I can only hope to see more fighting games take action like this, as it’s one of the most intimidating communities to join, especially if you’ve found yourself climbing up the ranks. Tekken 8 should be on the top of the list with the greatest, and if these cheat bans work out as they should, it may find itself rising to the top.
