Tens of thousands of WA homes without power after rainfall sparks pole-top fire
Tens of thousands of homes across WA have been left without power after a sprinkle of rain sparked a pole-top fire.
Western Power is desperately working to restore power in almost 40,000 homes in the Perth Metropolitan, Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions on Saturday morning.
There are 144 active outages.
It is understood the fires started after Friday night’s rainfall sparked a pole-top fire.
More than 10,000 homes in Perth’s southern suburbs — including Palmyra, Myaree, Beeliar, Kwinana and Gosnells — have been hit with a power blackout.
Meanwhile in Perth’s north, more than 500 customers — including locals living in Karrinyup, Trigg and Scarborough — are also without power.
Residents living in communities near East Bunbury, Narrikup, Coblinine, Boyerine, Daadenning Creek, Walebing, Watheroo, Coolcalalaya and Lockier have also been hit with the power blackout.
The power outages were first reported about 6.15am on Saturday.
“There are elevated fault levels across the network which may result in extended outages,” a Western Power spokesperson said.
“Unplanned outages are an interruption to the transmission or distribution of electricity that is unscheduled.
“We endeavour to resolve issues and minimise impact as soon as we can.”
More to come.
