The first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game is coming to Switch Online

The first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be coming to the GBA library, which is available to Expansion Pack members, on August 9.

The game – which was released alongside Blue Rescue Team on the DS and was the last ever official GBA release – is the first title in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series of roguelike games.

The story revolves around the player, a human character who has been turned into a Pokémon and has amnesia.

The player teams up with a rescue team of other Pokémon, as they take on missions to help others and attempt to figure out their real identity.

The game was later remade on Switch as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, which was released in 2020.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be the 21st Game Boy Advance game to be added to the Switch Online service.

Last month Nintendo added the first three games from the Densetsu no Starfy series of platformers, marking their first ever official release in the west.

NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are available as part of the standard Switch Online subscription, which costs $19.99 / £17.99 / €19.99 for a 12-month individual membership.

However, to play Game Boy Advance games (as well as Mega Drive / Genesis and Nintendo 64 games), players need to have the Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, which costs $49.99 / £34.99 / €39.99.
