The Norse Gods vs Young Kratos Debate is Fun But Let’s Not Underestimate the God of Thunder

The Norse Gods are known for their dramatic flair and over-the-top performances whenever they are about to do something stupid. The All-Father raised his children as his foot soldiers in his quest to conquer the Nine Realms and in his pursuit of infinite knowledge and power. These omnipotent beings were imbued with great power since their youth and can wreak havoc on anyone standing in their way; however, the gaming community would love to see the God of Thunder go toe-to-toe with the prime version of the God of War.

Kratos was fueled with rage in his younger days, especially in his quest for revenge against the Olympian Gods who wronged him. Nothing stood a chance against the Ghost of Sparta and would prefer to look the other way; however, Odin raised his boys to be cunning and Thor will likely not turn his back from a good fight.

Thor Would Have Represented The Norse Gods if He Were to Face the Younger Version of the God of War

Santa Monica Studio spent the last few years exclusively working on the God of War franchise and bridging the gap between the Greek Saga from the original trilogy to Northern Scandinavia, also known as Midgard in the Norse Saga. The game developers knew from the start that they wanted the Norse Gods to be portrayed differently than the likes of Zeus, Poseidon, and Athena, then took inspiration from the TV series: Sons of Anarchy for their behavior, design, and characterization.

These gods care less about the mortals around them and inflict their will whenever and wherever they please. Similarly to how young Kratos would kill without remorse in his earlier days as the God of War as long as he got what he wanted and that is to see his family suffer for their crimes against him. During the early parts of God of War Ragnarok, the God of Thunder got what he wanted, and that is an up-close and intimate scuffle against Kratos, which he claims to be a lesser version; however, it would be a different story entirely if he were in his prime.

Some would argue that the Norse Gods and other enemies in the Nine Realms were fortunate to face a much calmer and more mature version of the retired god. Thor gave Kratos a run for his money during the opening battle and had a gist of his destructive capabilities as seen in the wake of certain areas and settlements in the previous game and stories shared by Mimir.

Unlike his bloodlust during his siege on Mount Olympus in God of War 3, young Kratos did not hold back and delivered the Greek Gods to their grim fates and there was no shortage of his creative ways for them to die painfully. All Kratos cared about was revenge, and he did not think of the consequences of his actions, making him just as selfish as any other god.

While the God of Thunder would have taken the challenge head-on, the Norse God of War has proven to be a formidable foe against Kratos during the Valhalla DLC as he used every tool and weapon he collected throughout his journeys at his disposal. Baldur was fortunate to be cursed with vulnerability and did not feel the deadly blows by Kratos until his curse was lifted making him much easier to dispose of at the end of the 2018 adventure.

Young Kratos Would Have Tear the Norse Gods Limb by Limb if He Had the Chance

Some fans suggest that if Heimdall were less cocky, annoying, and insufferable, his great speed and gift of foresight would have been an even match for the God of War. The Norse Gods with their overinflated ego led to their untimely demise and it is worth noting that Odin’s poor parenting led these powerful beings astray.

Thor was likely disappointed during his first encounter with Kratos since this is not the version he and his fellow gods have heard so much about. The fight took a quick turn, and the God of Thunder was able to put him down at ease, which did not satisfy him yet, and this prompted him to revive Kratos to see his full potential.

The Norse Gods have limited power; unfortunately, poor parenting and their inflated egos made them a threat that must be dealt with thoroughly. The Nine Realms are much safer without Odin’s family in a position of great power.

Santa Monica Studio did a great job crafting the personalities of each deity and it would have been cool to see young Kratos fighting Thor without holding back. Perhaps the Thunder God will not live long enough to regret it.
