The West Test: Security guard taken for assessment after being hit by cricket ball at Perth Stadium
Running security is a dangerous game at the cricket, as one desperately unlucky guard found out in Perth on Sunday.
Play in the West Test between Australia and India had to be paused briefly on Sunday after the ball struck a security guard in the side of the head.
As India amassed a monster lead in the first Test at Perth Stadium, all eyes in the crowd were fixated on Indian megastar Virat Kohli at the crease.
But one man who was rightly monitoring the fans as part of his job from a boundary-line position was most unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Kohli climbed into a short ball from Australian spearhead Mitchell Starc, cutting a six over third man.
The ball landed over the boundary marker and bounced into the security guard’s head.

The man instantly clutched at the spot he’d been hit and was checked on by Australian spin veteran Nathan Lyon before the team medico raced across the ground to check on the man’s welfare.
He was taken into the race after a brief delay for an assessment and replaced by another guard.
