Tigers hopeful but Railways poised to recall three stars for round 19 GFL clash

Boulder’s chances of nailing down third spot ahead of the Goldfields Football League’s upcoming finals could be made significantly harder on Saturday against Railways, who are poised to recall several front-liners.

The Tigers are clinging to third place by percentage but have a game in hand over Kalgoorlie, who play Kambalda in the other match.

On the flipside, Boulder have lost all three games in 2024 against Railways by a combined 160 points and will be without injured forward Brett Blair for the rest of the season.

Blair kicked 35 goals in 10 games before sustaining a serious knee injury that also ruled him out of an appearance for WA Country against South Australia in Adelaide.

Railways, who lead the standings by two games and percentage over Mines Rovers, will be without Jack Kennedy and Norman Stubbs for the clash at Digger Daws Oval.

However, coach Rhett Pettit on Friday said prime movers Kyle Ryder, Jordon Reid and Alex Stuart were all in line for a recall.

The Panthers’ lone defeat was by 11 points in round 15 against Mines Rovers and the squad’s firepower was laid bare last weekend against Kambalda when they kicked 34 goals.

Kalgoorlie have matched Boulder’s six wins but their regular season ends this weekend ahead of a round 20 bye.

The team finishing third will host the first semifinal.
