Top 5 Strategies for Surviving the Zombie Horde in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the spiritual remake of everything that can go right and wrong in Dead Rising. You’re surrounded by not-so-friendly faces in a shopping mall, and the environments are here to protect as well as overwhelm you.
So, what do you do in such cases of dichotomy? Well, since window shopping isn’t a thing in this game’s reality anymore, it’s better to craft some cool weapons, save survivors, and meet Psychopaths who make zombies seem nicer.
5. Monsters Wear Many Faces
Yes, that’s a quote from another game with a troubled protagonist surrounded by devilish creatures. But, in Dead Rising, zombies can be the least of your problems. Scattered across the shopping mall are Psychopaths who lure you into battles with fellow humans and give you objectives that add a twist to your adventures.
There are 15 unique encounters with these strange beings, and they appear at different times throughout the day. They’re here to grab your attention, and if you’re not careful, you’ll be involved in things that shouldn’t be your concern.
It’s best to plan your moves before you head into a battle with some of them. They act as mini-bosses in Dead Rising and can take a good amount of time to take down. Given how things are so time-sensitive in the game, it’s best to approach Psychopaths with caution.
4. Weapons Stay for a Season, Books Exist for a Reason
Unfortunately, weapons don’t permanently stay with you in Dead Rising. They have a durability meter that indicates their existing condition (as seen in the upper right corner of the screen), and they’ll break after enough usage. However, this situation can be slightly improved.
Acquiring Books like Criminal Biography, Lifestyle Magazine, Engineering, and others lets you increase a weapon’s durability. These reading materials improve specific areas of weapon crafting, such as edged, household, and construction-based items. Seems like the pen is mightier than the sword, after all.
These reading materials are found across several different parts of the game, so keep exploring as much as you can. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster rewards you for finding new things, and Books are a perfect example of this.
3. Map Your Time, Time Your Mapping!
If you haven’t visited some of the biggest shopping malls in your life, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster might just allow you to do so. Seriously, this place is so big you can ride a motorcycle across the floor while running over zombies. So, naturally, you should be exploring different shops and attractions.
Although it’s not as big as Dead Rising 3, which would do well with having a remake, Dead Rising is still massive.
However, you only have 72 hours to complete the game. Given its size and intensity, you can miss out on a lot of content, so it’s best to prepare yourself by having a plan. Think about the survivors you want to save and places you want to check out on the map. Moreover, which optional Psychopaths do you want to cross paths with?
The game divides its progression into two parts – Scoops and Cases. In layman’s terms, these are side quests and main quests. While these two can exist as separate entities, sometimes you can end up progressing a bit too far into the storyline, and miss out on some unique Psychopath encounters and rewards.
2. Auto-Save Is the Stepping Stone to Success
It’s alright, no one’s judging you for saving the game frequently. Auto-save makes Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster a great game for people who don’t want the game to feel too punishing. However, only use it to your advantage, when necessary, in hopes of not letting this hinder your experience.
Auto-save can be a lifesaver when you need to make those tough choices. Maybe you just met that charming Psychopath at one of your favorite mall locations. But, you also need to carry on with the task of saving those who truly need your help. You can test out both scenarios by saving the game first.
Additionally, this feature will make challenging achievements like Zombie Annihilator easier to achieve. In this scenario, the game needs you to kill thousands of zombies. Get in a car, and drive over hordes of them until you can’t. Load the game back, repeat! Your kills track between the different playthroughs. Just make sure to use the same save file.
1. Survival of the Sincerest
To be fair, the game pretty much tells you this early on. If you stick to your goal, everything else eventually falls into place (or pieces, depending on how terrifying of a zombie killer you are). Being sincere about the game’s original design can help you level up faster and find better equipment.
Dead Rising wants you to focus on survivors. Frank can give them items and weapons for a better chance at serving and in turn, he too progresses through the game’s narrative as the timer counts down. Some of them aren’t made for this unforgiving world, so use them as human shields against zombies. Again, no one’s judging you. Probably.
