Traffic collision closes I-10 East in Central El Paso
A three-vehicle traffic collision on Sunday morning closed eastbound Interstate 10 east of Downtown El Paso.
The initial collision occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, on I-10 East near Piedras Street with one person taken to a hospital with serious injuries, El Paso police said.

There was a second crash involving an unoccupied police car that was being used for traffic control. There were no injuries in the second crash, police said.
A serious traffic accident closed the eastbound lanes of I-10 near Piedras Street causing traffic lines stretching to Downtown El Paso on Sunday morning, Aug. 18, 2024.
The eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed and traffic was being detoured off the freeway at the Dallas Street exit, near Cotton Street, police said.
I-10 East remained closed until about 10:45 a.m. as lanes began to be opened one at a time, the Texas Department of Transportation said on X, formerly Twitter.
Eastbound traffic was backed up to Downtown, according to police and Texas Department of Transportation highway cameras.
Details regarding the accident were not immediately available Sunday as the police investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit continued.
