Ubisoft’s Reason for Doom Might Just Become Its Savior Instead

Star Wars: Outlaws had a rocky launch phase and the gaming community is tired of seeing a buggy and problematic game be released in the current generation. The Star Wars brand is one of the most notable entertainment franchises and it is not enough to protect this original project from being torn to shreds by the player base and critics’ society. While there are some clear reasons to be disappointed about the game, the game developers released a road map that indicates upcoming fixes and exciting new content.

The publisher needs a winner, especially after recently announcing that the release date of the next major Assassin’s Creed project has been moved up to the following year; this original Star Wars project will have to do all the heavy lifting for this year.

The gaming community was unsurprised after Ubisoft decided to delay the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows next year, especially after the latest major Star Wars project failed to meet expectations. CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the game was practically finished; however, he decided to move the release date for quality assurance, adding more content, and to guarantee a smooth launch period. Perhaps the underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws has given the executives some pause and time to reconsider their options.

Fans had high expectations for this original open-world Star Wars project, especially since it is taking place between The Empire Strikes and Return of the Jedi and is in no way directly linked to the live-action film counterparts to rely on them as a crutch. Even before the game was released, the fans were explicit about their disappointment in how the gameplay and visuals looked dated, which did not do the game any favors. While the developers did whatever they could to keep the game from failing, a new roadmap has been shared. Among the promising improvements to certain areas are new story content and free additional contracts, which will be available later this year.

Star Wars: Outlaws had the potential to become a great game; unfortunately, it fell way too short. The publisher’s stocks have been decreasing gradually, and some would argue that the game’s failure to meet expectations is the crux of the problem. The project may have caused major problems for the company, but it could also be the solution to get the company out of the slump it is currently in.

The gaming community had high hopes for this project because it was an opportunity to visit certain concepts of the Star Wars lore that couldn’t be tackled in the films or spinoff television series. Fans have been begging for more story content or expansions featuring different gangs or factions; however, the game developers can’t cater to everyone, and sadly, there are plenty of things that fans will want to see that will never be in the game.

The Upcoming Roadmap of Star Wars: Outlaws Proves That This Is the Way

There is still hope for things to turn around for Star Wars: Outlaws. The roadmap proves that the game developers are planning, and intend to address issues that have been bothering the gaming community and throw in new content for compensation. Hopefully, the roadmap will meet expectations and achieve whatever the developers have promised.

Ubisoft may not be in the best of places, and this can be greatly attributed to the poor performance of its original Star Wars project; however, there are some upsides. Delaying the next major Assassin’s Creed game next year will encourage the developers to polish it even further and Massive Entertainment to focus solely on improving the game, making it better, and delivering the experience they had envisioned.

The gaming community wanted to see the game succeed; unfortunately, technical problems are holding it back. Perhaps the improvements that the roadmap has laid down will squash all of these problems and the game can run smoothly on a later date.

Massive Entertainment has taken on a great endeavor, and game development is not for the faint of heart. Rather than abandoning the project and moving on, the game developers planted their feet and went to work immediately to solve problems and deliver what they had originally envisioned.
