Vandals caught on camera defacing ancient Utah petroglyphs, investigation underway

KANAB, Utah (ABC4) — Law enforcement in southern Utah has started an investigation after two individuals were caught on camera allegedly defacing ancient petroglyphs at a cultural site.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office said they received the report over the weekend on Saturday, Nov. 23. The report indicated that a man and a woman were seen vandalizing the ancient Native American rock carvings near the confluence of Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch in Kane County.

The two suspects reportedly left the scene in a black four-door passenger vehicle with minor damage to the roof.

Anyone who may have information regarding the suspects or their car is asked to call the Kane County Sheriff’s Office directly at 435-644-2668.
