WAFL: Peel Thunder and Fremantle Dockers star Will Brodie pulled out of preliminary final with Swan Districts

Peel Thunder have been dealt a massive blow after star midfielder Will Brodie withdrawn from the preliminary final with a cork.

The Thunder have brought in top draft prospect Bo Allan as a late replacement for the Fremantle-listed midfielder.

Brodie sustained a bad cork in the first term of the Thunder’s first semifinal win over Claremont last weekend and ended the game as the deepest forward.

Thunder coach Adam Read told The West Australian on Saturday they would give Brodie until the 11th hour to prove his fitness, making the late change less than two hours before the first bounce at Steel Blue Oval.

Brodie has starred for the Thunder this season, averaging 28 disposals in his 18 games.

The 26-year-old was one of his side’s best in their 17-point qualifying final loss to Swan Districts earlier this month with 27 disposals.

Allan has come into the side for his first game since round 21 when he sustained a quad injury.

The teenager has played nine league games for Peel amid under-18 duties where he was the skipper, playing mainly as a third tall defender.

Brodie’s loss means the Thunder will only play 11 Fremantle-listed players, despite being able to suit up 12 for finals under the WAFL rules.

Peel dropped draftee defender Ollie Murphy for the game, bringing in Karl Worner who missed last weekend’s game because of a calf injury.

Peel match-winner Blair Bell is likely to spend more time in the midfield in the absence of Brodie, having kicked the final-minute match winner against Claremont last weekend.

Swan Districts are set to go in as named, having brought in forward Tom Edwards and utility Jesse Glass-McCasker for Luke Kelly and Brenton Hilton.
