On Thursday, Jan. 16, the carrier issued 61 non-contract team members WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notices.

According to a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson, the employees are nearing the end of their six-month interim role on March 17.

73 Hawaiian Airlines employees to lose jobs by end of year

These layoffs follow the acquisition of Hawaiian by Alaska Airlines, which now employs nearly 28,000 people, 7,000 of which live in Hawaii.

“These employees have done important work to integrate our airlines in the initial stages of our combination, and we are supporting them in their career transition.”

All workers are being offered a retention and severance package, as well as job placement services.

The airline added about 1,300 Hawaiian Airlines non-contract employees received a permanent or interim position based in Hawaii.

“The more than 6,000 unionized positions at Hawaiian Airlines are unaffected, and we are committed to maintaining and growing union-represented jobs – which comprise more than 80% of Hawaiian’s employee base.”

Hawaiian said they plan on hiring hundreds of Hawaii-based positions in 2025, including pilots, flight attendants, mechanics and more.
