Watch Dogs Movie Still Happening 10+ Years Later, Finds Star

A movie based on Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs game series was first revealed more than 10 years ago, so many thought it might have simply faded away. But it’s still happening. Deadline reports that Sophie Wilde, who starred in the A24 horror movie Talk To Me, is in talks to star in the video game film.

Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark, Hostile, and assistant director on Inglourious Basterds) is directing Watch Dogs from a script by Christie LeBlanc (Oxygen). Victoria Bata (Lessons in Chemistry) also contributed to the script.

The Watch Dogs movie was originally set up at Sony Pictures but has now changed hands to New Regency. Turi is also developing a TV series based on the Plague Tale games.

Ubisoft previously launched a poll asking fans who should play the lead role of Aiden Pearce in the Watch Dogs movie, with fans calling for Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise. Beyond Wilde, there is no word yet on who else might appear in the Watch Dogs film, or when it might release.

The game series debuted in 2014 (more than a year after the movie was announced), with sequels Watch Dogs 2 (2016) and Watch Dogs Legion (2020) following. The series used places like Chicago, San Francisco, and London as settings across the three installments, and the open-world games feature futuristic hacking and gadgetry.

Ubisoft has not announced any new Watch Dogs games.
