“We didn’t feel very satisfied with” the Way One of the Best Regions of the Game Was Completed

Game Science’s recently released action role-playing game, Black Myth: Wukong, is making a big name for itself in the gaming industry. When Game Science first dropped the game’s 13-minute trailer, gamers had some doubts as it looked too good to be true, however, the final version blew everyone away.

It’s only because of the efforts of the developers at Game Science who spent over 5 years working on the game. The team working on the game made sure that they delivered the promise that they made to the fans when they first revealed the game in 2020. Initially, when they created the first level of the game, Blackwind Mountain, they felt like it was underwhelming and decided to rework the game to make it better.

Black Myth: Wukong Developers Weren’t Satisfied With The Way Blackwind Mountain Turned Out

In a recent interview with PCGamer, a developer at Game Science spoke on behalf of the studio, explaining that when they first finished working on Blackwind Mountain, they felt like it was not as good as the version they showcased in the gameplay trailer that was dropped in 2020. The developer said,

One of the things we value is a promise to our game fans. We tried to keep true to what it looked like in 2020, but did a lot of optimization based on that. Blackwind Mountain was one of the first levels that was completed, and we didn’t feel very satisfied with it at the time.

The developer highlighted that the primary goal at Game Science was to make sure that Black Myth: Wukong looked like the game they showcased initially. They didn’t want to disappoint the fans. In the past, we’ve seen many AAA games that were nothing like the version that was teased at first. Game Science optimized the final game using the 2020 version.

Further in the interview, the developer explained that the boss fight in the third chapter, which takes place in The New West, took a lot of time as the studio wanted Yellowbrow to be perfect,

It took a long time to get this boss right – We don’t think any game on the market right now has achieved this kind of interaction with the main character – there is more than one way to beat him: you can use a different combination of spells, it’s very fluid. But out of every boss, only he has the ability to counter each and every spell and ability the player has.

The game has six chapters featuring six different locations. Black Myth: Wukong is an exceptional video game, but it’s the efforts of developers that make the game much more special. The team started with seven people and had thirty people when the game was first announced, in fact, the trailer was released to attract people to the studio so they could recruit more people.

The game was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows on August 20, 2024, while an Xbox Series X/S version is planned for release in the future. The game sold 10 million units within three days of release and quickly became one of the fastest-selling games of all time.
