What Is the Real Ending of Black Myth: Wukong?

The recent release of Black Myth: Wukong shocked the gaming industry with its well-crafted narrative, immersive landscape, and intricate yet engaging gameplay. The game is based on the book Journey to the West, which showcases the rich and amazing Chinese mythology. Players will face various monsters and bosses to progress in the main narrative and reach the ending.

However, to achieve the true and meaningful ending of the game, players need to navigate through the various chapters very carefully to collect and complete all the required items and side quests.

Without proper knowledge of how to reach the real ending, players will feel that the story concludes abruptly, without giving proper information about the main protagonist. To help reach the real ending, this guide will show all the pre-requisites required and how to complete them.

How to Unlock the Real Ending of Black Myth: Wukong

In order to unlock the real ending of Black Myth: Wukong and learn more details about the Destined One, players need to complete the following four pre-requisites:

1. Find and unlock Grand Pagoda (Chapter 3).
2. Completely explore all the other secret areas present in other chapters.
3. Complete Loong questline.
4. Defeat Erlang Shen before fighting the final chapter’s boss.

After completing all these things, players will get the true ending of the game, showing the narrative which was depicted in the book Journey to the West.

Unlock Grand Pagoda

To unlock the secret area called Grand Pagoda, players need to go back to the snowy landscape of Chapter 3 called The New West. This is a beautiful and treacherous area to explore, as it is covered in snow, but to reach Grand Pagoda, select and teleport to the Snow-Veiled Trail Shrine.

After that, players need to head east until they reach and cross the bridge. Upon crossing the bridge, players will find themselves in a massive open area (which looks like a boss area), but keep moving until the end. There, they will find the snow-covered door, and interact with it to reach the Grand Pagoda.

Completing Secret Areas in Other Chapters

Now that players have reached the Grand Pagoda, they need to explore and find the entrance to the secret area called Mei-Jian Peak. But the entrance will be locked as players need to complete secret areas of all the other chapters. Counting Grand Pagoda as one, all the other chapters, excluding the final Chapter 6, have these secret areas which players need to complete.

1. Chapter 1 – Ancient Guanyin Temple
2. Chapter 2 – Kingdom of Sahali
3. Chapter 3 – Grand Pagoda
4. Chapter 4 – Purple Cloud Mountain
5. Chapter 5 – Furnace Valley (in the Bishui Cave)

These secret areas are usually easy to find and will contain their own side quests to complete, which will provide players with various enemies.

Loong Questline

Loong Questline is lengthy but can be done along with finding and clearing all the secret areas. The questline starts when players talk to Old Man NPC to upgrade their healing gourd. After that, the Old Man will task players to collect a Loong Scale and find three Loong, who are scattered across the land.

To get the scale, players need to go to the Valley of Despair Shrine located in Chapter 2. Simply go to the area where players fought the Second Rat Prince and find a wall with scriptures on it. After finding the wall, use Wandering Wight Spirit to break the wall and collect the Loong Scale inside.

Now that players have found the scale, they need to find the three Loong who can be found around the keeper’s Shrine in the following chapter:

1. Red Loong – teleport to Outside the Forest Shrine in Chapter 1.
2. Black Loong – teleport to Rockrest Flat Shrine in Chapter 2.
3. Cyan Loong – teleport to Turtle Island in Chapter 3.

After defeating the three Loongs, players need to teleport to Relief of the Fallen Loong Shrine in Chapter 4, finding and defeating the Yellow Loong who possessed the Old Man NPC. Once defeated, the questline will end and players will get the Golden Lining Transformation.

Defeating Erlang Shen at Mei-Jian Peak

After completing all the secret areas and Loong questline, players need to go back to Grand Pagoda and now will be able to enter its secret area called Mei-Jian Peak after a small cutscene. After entering the secret area, players will confront Erlang Shen in his Sacred Divinity form.

Once defeated, players will then engage with Four Heavenly Kings in a gripping and engaging battle. After overcoming the Kings, players will then face the final form of Erlang Shen, who is now empowered by gods. This is arguably the most difficult fight before the final boss and players need to be fully prepared for the battle.

After defeating all the bosses at Mei-Jian Peak, including empowered Erlang Shen, players will receive the Azure Dome Transformation spell. Now players can go and challenge the final boss of the game, Great Sage’s Broken Shell. Now, defeating the boss will show players a new cutscene and explain more details about the Destined One.

In the end, the journey to get the real ending is hard fought but it will be worth the effort, so fill up your healing gourd and get ready to embark on the epic journey of Black Myth: Wukong.
